Artist Statement:

Intrinsically, I am a visual artist. I am passionate about the subtleties of color and details. This refined way of seeing, I credit to years of looking through my beloved camera, walking the earth with a few thousand rolls of film. The results: observation, exploration, abstraction and editing. As a painter, conceptually, I see from my soul. I find myself expressing and making art as if from latent seeds somewhere within me. Often, I paint what I do not photograph and I photograph what I do not paint

Thoughts on “Painting”

“As a painter, I am passionate about subtleties of color and detail. Not concerned with realism, I see from my soul; abstract ideas sprout from the imaginary.  Often, I paint what I do not photograph and I photograph what I do not paint.  A refined way of seeing, I credit to years of looking through my beloved camera, walking among the flora with hundreds of rolls of film. The results: exploration, observation, editing and abstraction. Studio time has become a “process-oriented practice” and by being in the flow, artwork can seem like a by-product at a day’s end.”

 Thoughts on Alchemy of Assemblage”

Assembling objects in unique arrangement holds power to reveal subconscious stories and cultivate fresh narratives. Compelled to pick up found objects from rural roads, urban sidewalks and landfills, a massing of junk began asking to be personified; giving new life to the old and outdated.

Thoughts on “Ceramic Vessels”

Clay has a spirit within. When hand-building, I shift my perception from “making a pot” to “giving clay permission…to reveal a final form”.  I enjoy the kinesthetic simplicity of starting from one lump of clay; nothing added-nothing taken away.  Every vessel becomes imprinted with individual “pinches” and a subtle textured surface results.  I see a relationship between “the contained” and the container. Vessels are glazed white to showcase colors and textures of items within.
