Call to Artists: Scaffolding

Call Dates: Jul 28 - Nov 18, 2024Gallery: AVA Gallery and Art Center
Scaffolding | LInda Roesch Visual Arts Gallery and throughout the 3 levels at AVA | Exhibition dates: Jan. 17- Mar. 1, 2025 | Deadline: November 18.

Calling for 2D (painting, mm, printmaking, photography, etc.), ceramic, sculpture, fiber arts, time-based media, sound, and installation. The term "scaffold" or "scaffolding" implies lifting up or providing support to enable further knowledge or ensure future success and advancement. Additionally, the term suggests sculpture and compositional structure. In January-February AVA will be refinishing our main named gallery floors, paving the way for future fabulous exhibitions. Leaving us just one gallery available for exhibition in January and February, the Linda Roesch Visual Arts Gallery. For this unique exhibition, we plan to use the Linda Roesch Visual Arts Gallery, as well as all three levels at AVA; installing unique works of art on each level, creating an environment to roam through. AVA is housed in a beautiful textile mill built in the 1800s, the original site for manufacturing Carter overalls and clothing; fiber art and textile work are of particular interest to our concept for this unique exhibition. Examples of artists who make installation-specific work: Rina Banerajee, Sana Musasama- currently on view at the Hood Museum, Cecilia Vicuna, Petah Coyne, Sheila Hicks, or Sheila Pepe, check them out and get inspired!

We will install 2D work and uncomplicated installation work. For anything more complicated, we will ask you to install your work; we will assist you. Installation will occur January 13-16. The exhibition will run for 7 weeks, Jan. 17- Mar. 1. De-install, Mon. Mar. 3. No alterations to the physical space are allowed. You must de-install your work and return the site to its original state. There will be an opening reception event on Friday, January 17, 5-7 pm. Details TBD. This will be a historic one-of-a-kind event and opportunity that we hope will bring lots of media attention, don’t miss out!
