From Overall Factory to a “Green” Art Center

In September 2003, AVA acquired the former H.W. Carter overall Factory building. The building was the perfect place to accommodate AVA’s vibrant art offerings with its expansive spaces, high ceilings, and abundant natural light. Yet, at the same time, the old post and beam structure needed significant work to be code compliant, energy efficient, structurally sound, and meet AVA’s future needs. The Carter-Kelsey Building includes four teaching studios, the Schleicher Childrens Studio with adjacent Wasson Childrens Loft, a digital arts media lab, and North and South studios.
