This is our third visit in a series of AVA Studio Chats.
Dana Read’s love of photography developed during her travels to 18 countries. Today she is a portrait photographer. After losing her mother, Lucia, in 2015, she became even more sensitive to beautiful fleeting moments that create a life story. She is deeply passionate about image-making and her style reflects soulful, whimsical sensibilities. Her dreamy style is influenced by fantasy found in early children’s book illustrations and moody chiaroscuro light. Photoshop has been a powerful tool for deepening her creative approach to imagery, she uses it to enhance her images and create digital photographic collages. She recently started a personal project, a series called, “Do You Dream in Color?”, where her fascination with botany, reverence for the feminine, and the cyclical nature of the seasons allow for unique narratives to relay the concepts of impermanence and surrealism. When not behind a camera or deep in Photoshop, she teaches history online, and enjoys spending time reading, painting, gardening, running, and spending time with her family. Dana portrait photography business, Firefly Photography, has served the Upper Valley and Keene, NH since 2010.
