Artist Statement

“After being trained in the discipline of drawing the figure, I have always been attracted to the development of structure. This I see in nature on hikes on our Connecticut River valley farm. Now these impressions are translated onto paper. It could be a certain pattern created by a cluster of fallen leaves or how the branches of an ancient tree have developed an incredible tension between positive and negative spaces. Color is a most important ingredient as is the interaction of forms on the surface of the composition. My many years of teaching students of all ages have reinforced my love for encouraging self-expression and to develop a discerning appreciation for design in nature.”
