Tracy Hayes: Subterranean Spaces

Tracy Hayes is a VT-based mixed media artist. Her work starts with variations of a single mark, and evolves from there with added paint, charcoal, ink, graphite and other media. As the paintings take shape as marks are added, blurred, or removed, the work becomes otherworldly, vaguely subterranean spaces and forms.

The artist will be demonstrating the approach behind her latest series, Obliteration Scrolls, which involve large scale drawings suspended from ceiling to create installations. Hayes will discuss mark-making in drawing, as well as her process in mixed media abstraction.

She has a BFA in Painting from New Hampshire Institute of Art and a BA in French from University of New Hampshire. Originally from Montreal and Toronto, Tracy currently works and resides between Vermont and New Hampshire. She recently received her MFA in Visual Arts from Lesley University College of Lesley Art + Design, in Cambridge, MA. Tracy’s work has been shown and is in collections throughout the Northeast.

“My work explores connections and the emergence of patterns in the intersections of lines, textures and values in my attempt to comprehend the contradictions and stressors of daily life. In an increasingly complicated, varied and noisy environment, I am concerned with role of individual voice.”
