Richard Moore | Twice Seen

Richard Moore | Twice Seen

The Bank Street Gallery at AVA

From 2005 to 2019, Richard Moore worked on “twice-seen” images, which are composites of old photographs in historic locations with contemporary images that he took from the same camera positions. He hunted for vintage photographs through museums, universities, town libraries, and private collectors in New Hampshire; Monhegan Island, Maine; and Athens, Greece. Moore re-photographed the landscape in the steps of earlier photographers from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, combining images of past and present from the same vantage point.

Richard Moore studied studio art and art history while receiving a BA in English from Yale University, followed by an MDiv from Union Theological Seminary and an MA in non-fiction writing from the University of New Hampshire. He learned photography from many fine photographers, including Neil Maurer, Paul Caponigro, and Douglas Prince. Moore has been a juried member of The Front in Montpelier, VT, and was included in the 2024 invitational at The Kent Museum in Adamant, VT. He is a member and past president of the New Hampshire Society of Photographic Artists and has shown his work around New England and in Athens, Greece. He worked professionally in wildlife and landscape conservation.

100% of the proceeds from this show will support AVA Gallery and Art Center.
