Photo Walk: Bicknell Brook

Photo Walk: Bicknell Brook

Time to Shoot Some Moving Water

Photo Walk Leader: Mark Buck fliernh@gmail.com

Location / Route: Take US Route 4A East from Enfield, NH, to Boys Camp Road on the left. Turn left onto Boys Camp Road and follow the road to the first bridge (Bicknell Brook). Parking is just past the bridge on the left side.
Photo opportunities can be found on the trail on both sides of the road.

Meeting Point & Parking Info: Park in the parking area just past the bridge and along the road. The parking area is small, so please park as tightly as possible. We will meet at the parking area at 7:00 A.M. sharp to head down the trails.
Estimated Duration: As long as the light is good.

Difficulty Level: Easy

Description of the Walk: The focus is on photographing scenes that capture moving water. This will mean using slow shutter speeds and often a large depth of field to capture foreground, midground, and background with acceptable focus. I will probably arrive around 6:00 AM, as the good photo conditions end when the sun starts falling on the brook or the background. If it is cloudy, good shooting conditions will last a long time. I will meet at the parking lot area at 7:00 A.M.

Accessibility Notes: Not wheelchair accessible, Uneven soft terrain, some stairs. Very short distances needed, but you can hike a mile or more if you desire. Walking is on a dirt trail with elevation changes and sometimes slippery footing. Less than 100ft of elevation change, but steep in some areas, getting to the water. Walking less than 1/4 mile gets you to some scenic locations. Getting to and into the water can be slippery and very uneven. What should people bring? Tripod needed for long exposure moving water shots, a Polarizing filter is often desirable, and a remote shutter release is helpful. Waterproof boots or waders for actually getting into the water for some shots. MOSQUITO REPELLANT. Imagination and creativity. Water/drink if desired. I normally bring 24-70 and 70-200 lenses and a full-frame camera. Any camera will do as long as you can manually set the Aperture and Shutter speed.
There are no facilities of any kind.

Rain Plan/Cancellation Info: Rain or shine unless monsoon-level precipitation is falling.
