Jessica Leitko Fields is a painter based in Greenville, South Carolina. Originally from Houston, Texas, her work is deeply influenced by the expansive landscapes and linear forms of the American South—particularly the flat, patterned fields of Louisiana rice country, a nod to her maternal heritage. Recently, her landscape work of mountainscapes become more regionally ubiquitous with a prominent focus on high-key color and surface. Fields exhibits nationally, including with Nahcotta Gallery in Portsmouth, NH as well as Anne Irwin Fine Art and Abend Gallery.
Her work is a celebration of place, memory, and pattern. Her works trade in color and texture. Thick, buttery paint in saturated hues adorn each canvas, attempting to convey the weightiness of both the earth and the air. The wax infused paint creates a chunky consistency, like jam. All to add a sense of the physical to the abstract. To put action and effort to thoughts. To catch and ground those brief moments of transcendence.
Jessica Leitko Fields will be demonstrating her approach to painting, and building rich lively surfaces. The demonstration will be live from the artist’s studio. Viewers are encouraged to engage and ask the artist questions as she works.
