Grace Mattern is an established poet and visual artist. Mattern’s poetry and short fiction have been published widely, including The Sun, Calyx, Poet Lore and Yankee. She’s received fellowships from the NH State Council on the Arts and Vermont Studio Center. She’s published two poetry books, Fever of Unknown Origin (2022) and The Truth about Death (2012), which won the NH’s Reader’s Choice award in 2014.
Mattern has recently translated her written work in visual forms, including sculptural and interactive books that features poems, as well as collage. She has spent decades heavily involved in advocacy work and threads of contemporary relevant issues can be seen throughout her visual art poetry, and writing.
The artist will be demonstrating the processes behind her work, as well as her journey from writing to visual art and how the two practices inform each other.
