Exhibition Statement
My fascination with clouds started early when I would lay in the backyard looking up and seeing shapes in the puffy clouds floating by. When I started backpacking and spending time on hiking trails, I found myself amidst the clouds as I climbed the high peaks, watching towering cumulus build energy over the ridges. That influenced how I viewed the landscape, as clouds were more than just a background element; they
were the star of the show.
The relationship between clouds & peaks is one of up & down, roughness & softness, permanence & change. They are separate and one at the same time. They push and merge as one sends nourishment while the other accepts it. They share the sky and present new scenes and sketches to enjoy every day.
Artist Statement
My paintings are about transitions. How light changes, how moods change, how the universe moves. Clouds provide a perfect vehicle for that expression. Through my work, I examine relationships of shapes, light, movement, and timing. In clouds, I see ideas about life, philosophy, and how we all connect.
Artist Biography
I graduated with a BFA summa cum laude in painting, photography, and design at Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia. I was fortunate to have inspiring professors at Tyler who taught me that while technique is important … art is about the journey … the idea … the moment. I’ve been searching for amazing clouds, landscapes, and moments ever since. My partner and I have enjoyed running a design studio in Vermont for 30+ years, and my paintings have been featured in galleries in Vermont, Philadelphia and the Boston area.
