Join us in a foundational painting lesson exploring the “block-in,” an essential process in both abstraction and representational painting. The demo will focus specifically on starting and engaging initial shapes in a painting, and outline methods of developing a painting from blocks of color to a more developed image. The process focuses on color shapes and learning to break images into broader shapes. From there, the painting can be developed into a representational image, or further abstracted. The demo will be live and viewers can engage and ask questions about the process.

The lesson-based demo can be applied to a range of practices, in both representational and abstract studio practices, as well as providing added context to the studio tours, demos, and exhibition tours featured in ArtReach.
