February 17- March 25, 2023 | Chiaroscuro | a group exhibition

The definition of the Italian word Chiaroscuro, in art, “is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. It is also a technical term used by artists and art historians for the use of contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume in modelling three-dimensional objects and figures.” If the term is be applied to meaning or narrative metaphor, an example may be demonstrated by opposites, or yin and yang. Asking for submissions which articulate chiaroscuro is the traditional sense, depicting light and shadow, as well as examples in the allegorical sense which seek to convey a poetic message.

Solo Exhibition Proposals

Thank you for your interest in exhibiting at AVA Gallery and Art Center. While AVA’s Exhibition Committee accepts and reviews proposals for solo exhibitions, our exhibitions are also comprised of solicited/invitational artists and traveling exhibitions. Please be aware that AVA’s exhibition schedule is planned 1-2 years in advance. Thoughtful consideration and equal representation is given to artists with strong connections to NH, VT, and the greater New England region. AVA is committed to exhibiting artists through meaningful, engaging contemporary art, cultivating an exchange of ideas and dialogue between the local art community and beyond. AVA features single exhibiting artists showing concurrently in our three/four spacious exhibition spaces.
