Artist Statement:
Wood-turning to me is a constant reminder of the beauty and process of our natural world. Plenty of my pieces took decades to grow. They are colored and textured by fungal elements, ants, rot and decay, and processes we don’t even understand but can still marvel at. Our local forests are true harmonious communities. I try to bring some of that forest magic to my pieces.
Biography:
I started turning wood in 2018 in order to make Red Sox world series bats for my two best Red Sox buddies. Like plenty of things in life, I found the process of doing something for someone else even more rewarding for me. I discovered that trees hold all kinds of stories and surprises inside. All I do as a turner is let them out. I source my wood from local forests and have been gifted plenty of beautiful pieces to work with. I grew up here in the Upper Valley and find immense satisfaction in serving the community as a Family Medicine physician at DHMC.
