“ With each painting my hope is to capture the varying effects that shifting light and changing seasons have on natural forms, colors, and textures. My paintings are representational without being overly detailed. Though abstract in composition, they are nonetheless familiar and accessible. “

Biography:

Jane Ashley spent her early childhood in Wilmington, Delaware, before moving with her family to Westport, Massachusetts.  She attended the Rhode Island School of Design, graduated from the Swain School of Design, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with High Honors from the California College of Arts and Crafts.  She was a finalist at the 1986 Annual Awards Competition sponsored by The Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, New York.  Since 1961, she has made her home on a farm near the base of Mt. Ascutney  in Windsor, Vermont.

 Besides her passion for painting, Jane is also a weaver and a well-known instructor in dressage.  Formerly she competed in combined training and at the highest level of dressage.  She was also a national dressage judge.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust, a conservation organization near Westport, MA where she grew up. Jane has shown her landscape paintings in over twenty New England galleries, in eight solo shows, as well as in ten Vermont artist group shows.  She is currently affiliated with Hunter Artworks, Grafton, VT.
