Becky J. Cook

Artist Statement:

“Movement, curves, fluidity and color are what I work with to create a world in my paintings. I have themes in my paintings that I’m not even aware I am placing there. Sometimes after I finish a painting it will have a face that pops out or is partially hidden. Most of the colors I use are intense.”

Biography:

I am a Vermont native and attended the University of Vermont, where I was a Clothing, Textiles and Design student. Whenever I could fit in an elective, I took either Art History or Studio courses. I love to paint in different mediums to explore which is best for my artwork at the time. Recently I’ve been exploring Irises and imagining they are people in various professions, standing tall, lithe and dramatic in their gardens. I’m also using reference photos my wife takes and develop tangential painting ideas from them. I paint with groups of Upper Valley pastelists and plein air painters.
