AVA’s ArtReach program invites you to join artists LIVE each week. Get a glimpse into the creative minds of experienced artists as they take you through the art-making process – from beginning with a blank canvas or raw materials, through decisions about themes, materials, media, colors, techniques, and other aspects of their practice. Flyers for new ArtReach sessions are emailed every Monday. Tyler Morrison: Craft & Utility in Ceramics

AVA Online,

Tyler Morrison is a NH-based ceramicist and educator. His focus is on functional work, emphasizing simplicity, sustainability, self-reliance, and humility. A lot of the work is made from recycled material, processed from studio waste. Primarily focusing on wheel throwing, Morrison also mixes his own glazes and prepares his clay. He is also an educator and teaches ceramic classes at AVA Gallery.

Derek Bell: Perfect Poultry Portraits (Online Artist Demonstration)

AVA Online,

Derek Bell is a VT-based painter. He received his BFA in Painting in 2008 from Rhode Island School of Design and spent three of his years there as a Teaching Assistant. As a painter, Derek prefers landscape, portraiture and animals, as well as an occasional still life. Since graduating from RISD, Derek works primarily in oils, watercolor, gouache and more recently egg tempera. The artist grew up on a horse farm in Vermont, and from an early age learned to paint and draw in a way he describes as “an almost monastic training in art.”

Mary Mead: Rethinking Craft

Mary Mead is a NH-based printmaker and sculptor and her work often combines a variety of printmaking techniques to create engaging abstracted landscapes and forms. Broadly her work explores the changing climate, and ways of finding a universal language in abstract imagery. Mead has a long exhibition and teaching history since earning her MFA from the Tufts University and the Boston Museum School, and her BS Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin/Madison. Mead teaches at Two Rivers Printmaking Studio, Chases Garage, Kimball Jenkins School of Art, and AVA Gallery and Art Center.
