Building Community Through Art

our MISSION.

AVA Gallery and Art Center is dedicated to promoting the visual arts through exhibitions, artist studios, and educational programs that nurture, support, and challenge New England artists. Providing art classes for children, teens, and adults of all levels and abilities, AVA’s programming is dedicated to recognizing the ways in which art enriches our lives and includes special events that foster interaction among artists, patrons of the arts, and the community.

we are ARTISTS.

AVA began as an artists’ cooperative and remains dedicated to nurturing artists through every stage of development. Rotating exhibitions feature local artists and challenge viewers. Our sculptural studies building offers artists opportunities to expand into the third dimension. Our Members’ Gallery is poised to become a gathering place for member artists. Educational programming continues to include new mediums and techniques that stimulate experienced artists while providing foundational studies for those beginning their creative journey.

we are FAMILIES.

Through the generosity of our donors, AVA’s outreach programs for families and children are now free. Every Friday and Saturday budding artists and caregivers explore their creativity in a safe environment. Youth in grades 5–8 are invited to join us for a weekly after-school gathering where their creative process is often inspired by the rotating art in our galleries. An AVA Outreach Arts Educator provides curriculum-based arts programming in Upper Valley elementary schools. After-school classes and vacation camps continue to supplement art instruction provided by local schools.

we have SPECIAL NEEDS.

Through partnerships with the Special Needs Support Center and the Grafton County Senior Citizens Council, AVA’s Art Lab and Senior Art programs guide and encourage participants to explore different mediums with an emphasis on creative expression. Both programs foster a sense of community and lively conversation while making art. Our scholarship programs have increased participation in classes and workshops for people who otherwise might not be able afford them.

we are COMMUNITY.

We are proud to be part of a culturally rich and vibrant community. In the past year, AVA has welcomed over 15,000 people through our doors with over 40 exhibitions. Our Mudroom live storytelling event brings neighbors from all over the Upper Valley to tell and hear stories in a supportive environment. AVA continues to branch out into the community as we partner with other local non-profits, provide space for self-expression, reach out to local schools, and offer new opportunities for on and off-site exhibitions.

we depend on YOU!
