14th Annual Regional High School Exhibition | January 28-February 24, 2022

AVA Gallery and Art Center is pleased to present an exhibition of works created by regional high school students who have been nominated for participation by their art teachers. The exhibition will be featured in galleries: Rebecca Lawrence, Elizabeth Rowland Mayor, E.N. Wennberg, and Clifford B. West, from January 28- February 25, 2022. AVA contacted a number of regional Vermont and New Hampshire public, private, and vocational high schools, encouraging the art faculty to nominate works by students who show exceptional promise in a variety of creative disciplines.  This year’s awards will be chosen by Sabrina B. Fadial, MFA, Professor at Norwich University, Northfield, VT.  AVA has currently received nominations from 13 schools. Participating high schools include Hanover High School, Hartford High School, Holderness School, Kimball Union Academy, Lebanon High School, Mascoma Valley Regional High School, Newport High School, Proctor Academy, Rivendell Academy, The Sharon Academy, Stevens High School, Thetford Academy, and, Woodstock Union High School

Juror: Sabrina B. Fadial

Biography: Artist Sabrina B. Fadial earned her BFA in Textiles from Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Art. In addition to her active studio practice, Fadial teaches in the Architecture + Art Department at Norwich University.

Artist Statement: Artist Sabrina Fadial illuminates our instinctual desire to control our surroundings in order to make sense of the world in which we live. Fadial challenges the notions of function as it relates to femininity. Her work expresses an alternate perspective that challenges traditional concepts of value, revealing an unexpected sense of purpose that is often overlooked. Fadial asks us to consider the minute facets of our lives that may be taken for granted, and reflect upon an essence of existence that is often overshadowed by the systems in which we function, and societal expectations through which we define our ideas of success.
